The third Project DIREKT meeting was hosted by the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Fiji and began on 9th December 2010. The offi cial meeting lasted for two days, prior to which the project partners participated in the 3-day International Conference on Renewable Energy and Climate Change hosted by USP on 6th to 8th December 2010. Project DIREKT was also one of the organizers and many of the partners also made presentations during this conference.
On 8th December 2010, parallel to the conference, an international capacity-building seminar for university staff was organized by Project DIREKT. This seminar was on “Success Factors for Europe-Aid Project Proposals” and was presented by Ms Julia Gottwald of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. The two-day project meeting saw discussion of the different work packages and reports from each partner on the progress of the project in their respective countries. On 9th December, a luncheon gathering to welcome the project partners from Germany, Mauritius, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago was organized at the USP. This event saw many representatives from renewable energy-related organizations come and welcome the Project DIREKT team, and this event was covered by the various media sources in Fiji.
On Saturday 11th December, a study visit was organized for the project partners. This study visit was to Nagado Hydro Power Station which is located in Nadi, Fiji. This hydropower station has a capacity of 3 MW with 16 GWh annually as electricity output. The partners also travelled to Sigatoka in Fiji to see the Butoni Wind Farm which has a capacity of 10 MW. |
